Tylium Tankers are rather common sights in Colonial Space. Military tenders often follow large Battlestar groups to keep them supplied; tankers often ferry Tylium back from remote mining and refining operations; and tankers also transport Tylium between Colonies. In addition to their basic function as cargo ships for the precious fuel, the tankers can also refine raw ore as well. Their refining capability, however, is nowhere near that of a dedicated refinery.
Tylium tankers thus serve a joint roll in the Fleet both as a store of reserve Tylium as well as an emergency fallback refinery in the event that the dedicated refinery ships are lost.
