Battlestar Hyperion Wiki

Triad is a game very similar to Poker and the only game specifically mentioned in BSG (NB: In the original series it was called Pyramid). The game is played with hexagonal cards that have both a color (suit) and a number of images (their face value). The focus of the game shifts further from Poker's numbers to the colors of the cards (E.G. there is no such thing as a straight but most hands involve variations of a flush). The game is played with bets around the table, folds, etc. The exact rules and the names of the cards are a bit of a unexplored mystery from the series.

Triad Hands - (From Lowest to Highest)[]

"Two Up" - Akin to a "pair" in poker. You have two cards with the same face.

"Two on a Run" - The same as the above but the pair of cards are also of the same color.

"Twins" - Two pair AKA two "Two Up"s.

"Twins on a Run" - Having two of "Two on a Run", that is two pair with each pair being suited to the same color. E.G. Two identical reds, and two identical blues. It is not clear whether having both pairs of the same color is a slightly higher hand or not.

"Three Up" - Three of a kind with non-matching colors.

"Three on a Run" - Three of a kind with matching colors.

"INSERT CARD High INSERT COLOR" - All cards are of the same color and your high card. This is akin to a flush in poker. E.G. "Prince High Red."

"Full Major" - A full house, with three of a kind and a pair (Two Up and Three Up), with non-matching colors.

"Four INSERT CARD" or "Four Up" - Four of a kind with non-matching colors. E.G. "Four Princes." It does not appear to be possible to have four matching cards all of the same color so there is no equivalent hand of "Four on a Run".

"Full Colors" - A Full Major (I.E. Full House) with all cards being of the same color.
