A Battlestar Group (BSG) includes a Battlestar and any other military vessels tasked to it. A BSG may be limited to just a sole ship (like Galactica travelling alone before the Fall) or may include dozens of ships all grouped together. Such a group may include only smaller vessels like Gunstars or logistical support vessels but may also include numerous other Battlestars tasked as a combined and permanent force. The smaller craft of a Battlestar Group are likewise combined into one Air Wing.
Hyperion's BSG 193[]
The Battlestar Hyperion (BSG-193) had no ships assigned to it prior to the Fall nor were any vessels scheduled to join its shake down voyage although it is very likely that the vessel was planned to be the center of a larger group once it had finished its first cruise. Since the Cylon attack, however, Hyperion has managed to rally several military vessels to its banner and unofficially add them to its Battlestar Group.

- Battlestar Mercury - Technically, Hyperion was briefly part of Mercury's BSG and under the command of its admiral before the ship was lost over Phoebe and command of the group transferred to Hyperion.
- Battlestar Poseidon - Lost over Phoebe.
- Battlestar Trident - Departed to Ragnar. Status unknown.
- Gunstar Theseus - Temporarily joined Hyperion before being lost over Caprica.
- Patrolstar Hades - Missing and presumed lost over Zeus.
